Ophthalmology

Among all our senses, the impaired vision means the greatest deterioration of our quality of life. in the background of the visual impairment can be several causes, the identification of which is the task of the ophthalmology specialist. Besides that, the eyes, as all other organs, have other diseases (including congenital malformations, inflammations, acquired, age-related diseases, tumourous diseases etc.). The detection and treatment of these are also among the tasks of the ophthalmologist. Several general diseases can also cause eye lesions, therefore the ophthalmologist can recognise in many cases the given disease, before it causes any other symptoms, thus ophthalmology examination can be an important preventive tool as well. Based on this information it can be stated that the ophthalmology examination can answer many of our questions.

In case of what symptoms should you contact an ophthalmology specialist?

  • If you experience any kind of visual impairment/visual complaints (diplopia, complaints related to the field of vision, photophobia etc.).
  • In the case of "red eye" syndrome, as the ophthalmologist can differentiate among its several causes.
  • If you have any known eye disorder (e.g. cataracta or glaucoma), or if it is suspected, or in the case of a family history of these.
  • If an age-related screening is required
  • In the case of any abnormal palpebral or surface lesion of the eye.
  • In the case of abnormal lacrimation

In asymptomatic cases

  • In the case of required screening due to contact lens wearing
  • If you suffer from a general disease which may also affect the eyes (diabetes, high blood pressure, certain metabolism disorders, thyroid gland disorders, some neurological diseases etc.)
  • In the case of any hereditary problems if you have any affected relatives
  • If you are regularly taking a medicine which may also have ophthalmological lesions as a side effect

What happens during the ophthalmologist's visit?

Ophthalmology examination is a painless procedure. The devices used during the examination have no harmful effects on the eyes. Your visual acuity is always evaluated independently from your complaints. Ophthalmology requires the use of lots of instruments due to the characteristics of the eyes, therefore during the examination, the specialist must use a slit lamp instrument. In certain cases, further examinations may be required if the specialist deems it necessary based on the clinical findings. Finally, the specialist consults with you on the results of the examination and if any further action is required, he or she will also clarify it with you. If other specialist's examinations are needed, MeDoc Health Center willingly organise the available examinations for you, thus you do not need to mess with searching other specialists and sites, you can reach everything in one place.
